2. What is the Vienna Card and do you need it?

In Vienna, as in many European cities, there is a tourist card Vienna City Card. It includes a ticket for public transport in the city (metro, trams and buses), as well as more than 210 discounts – from museums to traditional wine taverns “heuriger” – at a price of approximately from €19.

Tourist card Vienna City Card, as many travelers claim, is beneficial mainly when you going to visit many museums and paid attractions. Otherwise, it makes sense to just take a regular travel pass for 48 or 72 hours and not overpay.

But if you buy a Vienna City Card (the cost is approximately €31 for 48 hours and €37 for 72 hours), then get discounts on visiting attractions, cafes and restaurants. The full list of establishments and the discount rate (on average 10-20%) can be viewed in the brochure, which is issued at the points of sale of the card — in tourist offices and information points, as well as when buying online.

The card can be purchased at hotels, as well as at the Tourist Information Center on Albertinaplatz Square (daily from 09:00 to 19:00), at the Tourist Information Center at the Central Railway Station (daily from 09:00 to 19:00) and at the Tourist Information Center at the airport (daily from 07:00 to 22:00), at the trade and information points of the Vienna lines (for example, Stephansplatz, Karlsplatz, West Station, Landstrasse/Vienna Center), in the Vienna City Card application or in the online store.
